Luke 12:49-53 (NASB -
Jesus speaking)
I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished! Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two, and two against three. They will be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against mother; mother-in-law against daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.
Questions for interpretation:- What is the "fire" that Jesus came (and was/is "eager") to kindle?
- Didn't Jesus come to make peace on earth? Is there such a thing as Christ-honoring division among family?

You're a man of many words!
Christ will fulfill "Peace on Earth" as prophesied. I always thought this "Peace" refers to the Millienial Kingdom as well as the heart of the saint. Issac Watts' famous "Christmas Carol" "Joy to the World" was originally intended as being a hymn about Christ's rule on earth during His Millenial and eternal reign. The song's lyrics take on a whole new meaning when the "Joy and Peace" is applied to the future hope that is yet to come.
